Ubisense says Europe's second largest automotive group will deploy Atlas Copco and Ubisense manufacturing tools across its production sites.

The suite of tools incorporates Ubisense’s real-time location system,  “indoor GPS” with Atlas Copco's widely used production tools and has already been adopted by BMW across its global assembly plants.

Ubisense says the solutions have already been deployed at three of the company's sites, in a deal worth approximately €1 million.

So who is it? Well it isn't Volkswagen, which sits on top of the European pile in terms of revenues (2011: €159bn) and output, 8.6m units. Looking at units, PSA Peugeot Citroen sold 3.5m, comfortably ahead of third placed Renault with 2.7m. However, when it comes to revenues, Daimler – owner of Mercedes Benz – generated €106.5bn despite only selling 2.1m units, well ahead of BMW (€68.8bn from 1.7m units).

Other car manufacturers are already customers as well as BMW, such as Fiat, Aston Martin and Honda, and the number is increasing says Ubisense CEO, Richard Green, mainly spurred by a deeper understanding of the benefits of the Atlas Copco
– Ubisense tools.

“Our systems are now being deployed by a growing number of global automotive companies to drive enormous productivity benefits in their business,” said Green. “The ROI is clearly understood by the industry and this is further endorsement of our solution by such a leading group.”
