Coombs steps down as Asterand CEO

Asterand has announced that Martyn Coombs has stepped down as chief executive with immediate effect, providing no indication of why.

An announcement by the company, which provides human tissue and tissue-based services to the biotech and pharma industries, said chairman Jack Davis will take over as interim CEO while a new chief is sought, a process the company has commissioned with immediate effect.

Davis said: "Martyn has been a positive influence as CEO over the last four years and we wish him well for the future."

Coombs joined the company as director and CEO in March 2007 having previously been at Amersham. The Asterand announcement said he had been responsible for guiding the company though an exciting period in its development, including the acquisition of BioSeek in 2010 which has added significantly to the its growth prospects.

It added that it remained confident in achieving market expectations for the year as a whole.
