The AVEVA Group has bought out the founders of German computer aided design (CAD) company, Bocad, in a £14m cash move that it hopes will strengthen its entire suite of engineering tools.

Bocad, who helped in the production and planning of the Werder Bremen stadium, has expertise in the design, detailing and assembly of structural steel and other materials, tools that have already been integrated with AVEVA’s own. The company says this brings significant benefits to customers and directly complements its 3D design software in all sectors – plant, marine and fabrication.

It also adds 90 new staff to the group, both developers, sales and distribution – Bocad has offices in Belgium, Germany, Malaysia, Canada and France and has a worldwide user base in Oil & Gas, Power, Marine and Fabrication markets.

Richard Longdon, AVEVA CEO, said: “This acquisition further extends AVEVA's position in the Engineering & Design market providing the most comprehensive 3D design software for plant and marine. We're excited about the opportunity to unlock the commercial potential for Bocad's leading technology in a number of markets in which AVEVA already has a strong presence."
